anomalies which are not apparent when using only one translator

English history, 1216-1272
Funded by the Arts and Humanities
Research Council, and combining King’s College London’s Department of History
and Centre for Computing in the Humanities with The National Archives and
Canterbury Christ Church University, The Henry III Fine Rolls Project is a
unique and pioneering enterprise which democratises the rolls by making them
freely available in English translation with a sophisticated electronic search
engine, the first medieval source to be treated in this way.
Between Magna Carta and the Parliamentary State: The fine rolls of King Henry
III 1216–1272 and the project
A fine in the reign of King Henry III (1216–1272) was an agreement to pay the
king a sum of money for a specified concession. The rolls on which the fines
were recorded provide the earliest systematic evidence of what people and
institutions across society wanted from the king and he was prepared to give.
They open a large window onto the politics, government, economy and society of
England in the hinge period between the establishment of Magna Carta at the
start of Henry’s reign and the parliamentary state which was emerging at its
end. This Project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, makes the
rolls freely available to a wide audience while at the same time, in the
Fine of the Month feature, providing regular comment on their historical
interest.
INDIA OFFICE FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH
The information included in the India Office Family History Search
website is taken from a card index hitherto available only at the British
Library. The card index was compiled by members of staff at the India Office
Records from the mid-1970s onwards to meet the growing interest in genealogy.
Users should note that probably less than 10% of the biographical sources
available in the India Office Records was incorporated into the index, although
future additions to this website are planned. As the biographical information
included in this website is only a small part of the total available in the
archives, users may need to search elsewhere in the records.

MERCHANTS AND BANKERS
LISTINGS
website is years old and is now (from 2009) undergoing a marked
identity change. Its timeline material on economic history (for 1560-1930) is
being moved to a website managed by Ken Cozens and Dan Byrnes,
The Merchant
Networks Project. This will empty many of this website's pages which have
always been in series. In due course,
Merchants and Bankers Listings will
carry information from the Crusades on the early development of what became
“capitalism” in Europe to 1560 or so. As well as a conglomeration of data on
modern developments, mostly on modern/technical industry, computing, and for the
future, today's climate change problems. The editor's view is that in the
context of climate change, the views of Merchants and Bankers (and Economists),
the keepers of matters economic, are due for a considerable shake-up. If this
website can encourage the shake-up, and help inform it reliably, well and good.
